Who we are

A tour operator built for the high places

Alta Via designs and leads mountain journeys for travellers who want more than a viewpoint. From valley trailheads to glaciated ridgelines, every itinerary is mapped, paced and supported by experienced local guides.

We work in small groups, move at a human rhythm and choose lodges and camps that sit lightly on the landscape. Our planning team handles logistics, permits and acclimatisation so you can keep your eyes on the horizon.

The Alta Via approach

Mapped with care, paced for people

Altitude is earned, not rushed. We build acclimatisation into every schedule, brief each stage in advance and adapt the route to the weather and the group in front of us.

First light

The summit hour

There is a moment before sunrise when the whole range turns to ember. We time the hardest days to meet it — boots on snow, headlamps off, the valley still asleep below.

Inside a journey

A typical expedition, day by day

Day 1 — Arrival & briefing

Valley basecamp

Meet your guides, fit equipment and walk a gentle warm-up trail while we review the route, weather window and safety plan.

Days 2–3 — Approach

Into the high valleys

Steady ascent through forest and pasture to alpine huts, building rhythm and acclimatising before the demanding stages.

Days 4–5 — High traverse

Ridgelines & glaciers

The heart of the journey: exposed balcony trails, glacier crossings on rope where needed, and the broadest views of the trip.

Day 6 — Descent & celebration

Back to the valley

A long, scenic descent to the trailhead, followed by a shared meal to mark what the group has crossed together.

Why travel with us

Built on judgement, not bravado

Certified guides

Every journey is led by qualified mountain leaders trained in navigation, glacier travel and wilderness first response.

Small groups

We cap group sizes so the pace stays personal, the trails stay quiet and decisions can flex to the conditions of the day.

Responsible travel

We favour local lodges and guides, carry out what we carry in, and design routes that respect fragile high-mountain habitats.
